This Time of Year... Make a World of Difference
Look through this issue of Revolution... at the understanding people will get from it. And ask yourself how critical is it that this newspaper survive and thrive—in print and online.
We face a sobering challenge: current levels of sustainer contributions do not bring in enough money to continue to put out the print and web editions of this paper. This is now in your hands. And your donation this holiday season will make a great deal of difference—potentially a world of difference.
- In a society where the official unemployment rate for Black youth is 49%, how critical is it that people understand this is not because "immigrants are taking 'our' jobs," but—as the centerspread of this issue vividly illustrates—unemployment is a product of "a world twisted and distorted by capitalism-imperialism in its endless, global pursuit of profit"?
- As the world's powers turn their backs on the terrible outbreak of cholera in Haiti, and as apologists for capitalism blame this on the Haitian people in various ways, how necessary is it that the article in this issue from A World To Win News Service reach people with an analysis of how the workings of imperialism have led to this intolerable situation?
- In the face of an epidemic of police brutality, how critical is it that the lives of victims of police brutality are brought to light, that the victims of police murder are humanized, and that this hidden and covered-up epidemic is exposed in stories like Michael Slate's interview with the sister of Julian Collender in this issue?
- And, in a world where the powers-that-be have imposed a verdict that communism is at best an impossible ideal, how vital is it that the print edition of this paper reach into high schools, colleges, and communities with the word about the Constitution for the New Socialist Republic in North America (Draft Proposal) from the Revolutionary Communist Party, USA? And that this Constitution can now be read online at revcom.us?
Revolution helps people put together the pieces of the puzzle, to see the world as it is, to understand the underlying system, and to act accordingly—with passion and substance.
Central to all this, Revolution newspaper is where people around the world often first meet and connect with the leadership and work of Bob Avakian. Starting next week, Revolution will begin to serialize Avakian's important new talk: "Birds Cannot Give Birth to Crocodiles, But Humanity Can Soar Beyond the Horizon."
As the Message and Call from the RCP says: "In Bob Avakian, the Chairman of our Party, we have the kind of rare and precious leader who does not come along very often. A leader who has given his heart, and all his knowledge, skills and abilities to serving the cause of revolution and the emancipation of humanity." And as that Message and Call also says: Bob Avakian "has deeply studied the experience of revolution—the shortcomings as well as the great achievements—and many different fields of human endeavor, through history and throughout the world—and he has brought the science and method of revolution to a whole new level, so that we can not only fight but really fight to win." ("The Revolution We Need... The Leadership We Have, A Message, And A Call, From The Revolutionary Communist Party, USA"—available at revcom.us).
