100+ Women Stage a “Handmaid’s Tale” Protest vs Pence

October 26—When Trump’s second in command, Mike Pence, came to Denver for a Republican fundraising event, he was met with more than 100 women dressed in costumes out of The Handmaid’s Tale protesting the regime’s attacks on women and reproductive rights. The Handmaid’s Tale is a current TV series based on a Margaret Atwood novel depicting a Christian fascist society in which strict biblical law and patriarchal values are viciously enforced by the rulers.
One of the protesters told the Boulder Daily Camera, “We thought Ronald Reagan was bad enough with the religious right and Focus on the Family. That is what inspired the book [by Atwood]. But that was nothing like Mike Pence." A member of the Indivisible Front Range, which helped organize the protest, said, “It's a scary thought, thinking someone like Mike Pence is dead set on taking away the rights of women. We stand against discrimination of any kind, and women shouldn't be relegated to the second class."
Pence is a key leader of the powerful Christian fascist movement in the U.S. backed by major sections of the U.S. ruling class—as revcom.us has pointed out, he is a dangerous “holy warrior” waiting in the wings.
A report at CommonDreams.org on the Denver action pointed out, “The protest comes as Republicans in the [U.S. House of Representatives] this week announced hearings for a bill that would make it illegal for doctors to perform abortions after only 6 weeks, earlier than most women even know they are pregnant. That comes after the House, in fact, passed a similar ban for abortion after 20 weeks. The GOP leadership in the Senate has said the 20-week ban will get a vote, but hasn't specified when.”
