Black Student at Yale Treated as a “Criminal” by Cops—What Does This Say About Amerikkka?

This week, a Black woman graduate student at Yale was accosted and harassed by police while she was taking a nap in the common room at her own dorm. The pigs treated her outrageously even after she showed them her ID and opened the door to her dorm room. Think about that—a graduate student at an elite Ivy League college is treated as a “criminal suspect” just because of the color of her skin! This wasn’t an isolated incident at Yale—the student says she can tell “tons” of other stories like that. And you know, if you’re aware at all, that this happens all the fucking time, everywhere, in America. Just to give a couple of examples in the past few weeks, two Black men were arrested at a Starbucks in Philadelphia, for just sitting there and waiting for an appointment; and four Black women who were leaving an Airbnb in California were surrounded by pigs and questioned like they were burglary suspects as a police helicopter hovered over them, for, as one of the women said, “being Black in a white neighborhood.” We’re not even talking here about all the Black, Brown, Native American and other people of color who are murdered in cold blood by the police in the streets of America, many of them unarmed—with the killer cops walking free by claiming they shot in “self-defense.”

Malcolm X once said, “What do you call a Black man with a PhD?” He answered with bitter irony, “a nigger.” That was 50 some years ago, and it’s still true today, and applies to Black people of all genders. More than 150 years after the end of slavery, after the end of the Jim Crow era of open segregation and lynchings, Black people are still oppressed, still brutalized, still treated as less than human by this white supremacist system of capitalism-imperialism. Enough! These and many other outrages and crimes of this system cannot be reformed away. This thoroughly rotten system must be overthrown, through an actual revolution, when the time is ripe for millions to go for it with a real chance to win. Right now, YOU need to be part of the movement that’s preparing for that revolution.
