100,000's of people will be in DC on inauguration day to celebrate Obama's election. But what does this election represent—the US moving beyond its history of oppressing Black people and toward a post racial future? Or a move by the powers that be to put themselves in a better position to ride out the troubled times they see confronting them and their system in the period ahead? And whose victory is this? Is it a victory for the people of Afghanistan whose country will soon have 30,000 US troops surged into it, and who will face more bombing raids and more house-to-house searches as a result? Is it a victory for the people of Gaza who are facing Israeli bombs and tanks in a US backed and funded "all out war"? Is it a victory for Black people who will continue to confront continuing suppression in white supremacist America? Is it a victory for gay people who had doors slammed in the face of their quest for equality on the very election night when Obama won his victory?

He was one of the Fort Lewis 6, six GIs who refused orders to go to Vietnam in 1970, and was sentenced to two years in Fort Leavenworth Military Penitentiary for this "crime."
