AMLO: STOP Conciliating with the Trump/Pence Fascist Regime!

We presume that when they refer to the “fascist defeat,” they are referring to the Electoral College victory for Joe Biden, as called by major news outlets. As we point out elsewhere, this is still very much fraught and contested, and what is needed to see this righteous task through—of the actual ouster of this fascist regime—is mass, sustained, nonviolent protests like what is being called for by Refuse Fascism.

Masses of people around the world are celebrating the defeat of the fascist Trump/Pence regime in the U.S. elections. That regime is trying to impose fascism, in which the ruling capitalist-imperialist class exercises open dictatorship and terror, without the façade of democratic rights. It is a racist, misogynist, chauvinist, and viciously xenophobic regime. The struggle to run out this regime continues, given that Trump and the fascists continue attempting to steal the election. It’s not that Biden is “good”—he is not—but his election is part of putting an end to this fascist regime in the interests of all of humanity.

Instead of supporting the fight against fascism, Mexican president Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) has provided legitimacy for the lies of the fascists about alleged electoral “fraud” by refusing to recognize Biden as the winner. AMLO seeks to justify this by referring to past electoral fraud in Mexico and saying “we want to be respectful of the people’s self-determination.” Just like the hated former Mexican president Enrique Peña Nieto who helped candidate Trump win the 2016 elections by inviting him to Mexico as if he already were head of state, AMLO lends his hand to the outrageous attempts by the U.S. fascist to steal the elections in which he was defeated by more than four million votes.

Yes, there was fraud against AMLO in 2006 and 2012, but the only electoral fraud committed now in the United States has been by Trump and the fascists who have maneuvered to deny the right to vote to large numbers of people, mainly Blacks, Latinos, and other people of color. They have sought to intimidate voters by showing up with guns and threatening people counting the votes, and even trying to stop the vote count in the states where the votes were going against them. The Mexican government’s position is not, as AMLO claims, “wait until the matter of the election is legally resolved,” but rather it is to provide help to the attempts of the fascists to carry out massive fraud. Even beyond this, even if the fascists had won—and fortunately they did not—fascism is never legitimate. Hitler initially rose to power through the German electoral system: Should we therefore say that his regime was legitimate?! Of course not.

To make things even worse, AMLO not only refuses to recognize the initial victory in the struggle to drive out the fascist Trump/Pence regime, but he repeats the same crude lie that he used when he met previously with Trump in Washington (which the Trump campaign used in its election propaganda). He now says that “President Trump has been very respectful towards us, we came to very good agreements and we thank him because there have been no interventions and he has respected us.” Who are the “we”?! The Central Americans, hunted down, deported, even murdered by the Mexican National Guard which has become the Yankee Migra thanks to one of these “good agreements”? The asylum applicants in the United States who the fascist government has thrown out on the Mexican side of the border to wait in unsafe and inhuman conditions? The women who were subjected to gynecological operations without their consent, including the removal of their uterus, in the immigrant concentration camps in the State of Georgia? The Blacks, Latinos, and other people murdered by the police and fascist hordes in the U.S.? All of this has been repeatedly and publicly justified by the racist, misogynist, and xenophobic statements by Trump and his cohorts. What AMLO lauds as “good agreements” are in fact a criminal pact by the Mexican state with the fascist regime to hunt down, arrest, and deport immigrants in Mexico, shoring up the xenophobia and racist and anti-immigrant genocide of the Trump/Pence regime.

The Mexican government’s position has nothing to do with respect for the people, neither in the United States, in Mexico, or in any part of the world. Its position is to conciliate and collaborate with fascism and its crimes, and this must stop now!

Down with the fascist Trump/Pence regime!
