Cornel West and Carl Dix Say:
All Out for February 26—No More Murder of Black Youth!
Updated February 23, 2014 | Revolution Newspaper | revcom.us
The refusal of the system to convict Michael Dunn for murdering Jordan Davis is an outrage. On top of the exoneration of George Zimmerman, the vigilante murderer of Trayvon Martin, it amounts to Amerikkka declaring, once again, that Black people have no rights that white people are bound to respect. To those who see this as an outrage but feel there is nothing we can do, we say: WE MUST NOT ACCEPT THESE HORRORS AS JUST THE WAY THINGS ARE!
Anyone who tells us different is wrong. We don’t have to accept these horrors. We can and must stand up and say NO MORE to the murder of our youth and to the criminalization of Black and Latino youth from which such murders spring. We must manifest our determination to reject the way this system treats the youth like permanent suspects; guilty until proven innocent, if they can survive to prove their innocence.
Join us when we go to the seats of power, with hoodies and targets, on February 26, the Day of Outrage and Remembrance for Trayvon Martin and Jordan Davis. Join youth who are tired of going thru their lives with a bull's-eye on their backs, and parents who are sick of wondering whether their children will return safely when they leave the house in the morning. Everyone with an ounce of justice in their hearts needs to join us.
FEBRUARY 26—HOODIES UP, TIME’S UP, WE’RE STANDING UP!
NO MORE MURDERS OF OUR YOUTH!
