Bannon’s Departure and the Heightened Urgent Need to Build for November 4
The Trump/Pence Regime Must Go!

The articles at right were posted this past week, prior to the departure of Steve Bannon—a hard-core fascist who was Trump’s chief strategist—from the Trump administration. In our view, they remain highly relevant to the situation we face right now.
As for Bannon: before he became Trump’s campaign head during the closing months and then chief strategist once Trump was elected, he was head of the Breitbart News Network website, fomenting fascism and white supremacy. As Bannon himself has remarked, he feels he can fight more effectively for the fascist program outside the administration than inside; in other words, his hands will be freer both to attack the regime’s opponents (including those within the regime and the ruling structures more broadly that Bannon deems not fascist enough) and to whip up and further shape the fascist social base that Trump has relied on for his ascent, and which the regime requires for its advance. All this is facilitated by Bannon’s return to head Breitbart.
Moreover, as Trump himself insists, Trump was able to mobilize a fascist base and essentially seize the Republican nomination well before Steve Bannon came on board—and as Trump has shown not only since Bannon’s departure but during the recent period of what is reported to be Bannon’s diminished influence in the White House, he is acutely aware of the need to continue to mobilize this base and to defend it, even when that causes him problems. A further point: one difference being reported between Bannon and those who are not leaving the regime is that the ones who are staying are, if anything, much more militarily aggressive in the immediate term than Bannon.
So—again, as this past week shows—the fate of Steve Bannon means nothing positive in terms either of the unleashing of the fascist social base that Trump has so cultivated or of the nuclear adventurism that Trump has been flaunting over the past months.
In short: Bannon’s departure does nothing to diminish, and in some ways heightens, the urgent need to build for massive mobilization on November 4 to actually drive this regime OUT!

The Democrats, along with the New York Times and the Washington Post, etc., are seeking to resolve the crisis with the Trump presidency on the terms of this system, and in the interests of the ruling class of this system, which they represent. We, the masses of people, must go all out, and mobilize ourselves in the millions, to resolve this in our interests, in the interests of humanity, which are fundamentally different from and opposed to those of the ruling class.
This, of course, does not mean that the struggle among the powers that be is irrelevant or unimportant; rather, the way to understand and approach this (and this is a point that must also be repeatedly driven home to people, including through necessary struggle, waged well) is in terms of how it relates to, and what openings it can provide for, “the struggle from below”—for the mobilization of masses of people around the demand that the whole regime must go, because of its fascist nature and actions and what the stakes are for humanity.
