Georgia: The Lynching of Ahmaud Arbery
| revcom.us
On Sunday, February 23, Ahmaud Arbery, a 25-year-old Black man, was jogging near his home in Brunswick, Georgia. When two white men—Gregory McMichael and his son, Travis—saw Ahmaud jogging by in Satilla Shores, a predominantly white neighborhood, they armed themselves with a shotgun and a .357 Magnum. Then they got in their pickup truck and chased Ahmaud down. A cellphone video that came out shows the white men attacking Ahmaud, who was unarmed, and then shooting him at least two times. Ahmaud staggers a few steps and then falls down, murdered at the hands of the two racist killers. Gregory McMichael is a former cop and investigator for the DA’s office. So far they have not been charged with anything. The video of the lynching came out recently, and on May 5, a prosecutor said that he would ask a grand jury to decide whether there would be any charges. The family of Ahmaud Arbery says that the two murderers have been going all over town, laughing and going on with their lives.
