People marched in over 1400 cities against the Trump fascist regime, under the slogan of “Hands Off.” Over half a million people signed up to be there prior to the day, and on Saturday hundreds of thousands surged into the streets nationwide. The potential power was palpable.
From the day after Trump won the election, Bob Avakian has spoken of "two countries" within one. He called it an “extension of a fundamental division that has existed since the beginning of the so-called ‘United States’ of America, with its foundation in slavery and genocide—a division which has never really been resolved throughout the history of this country—not through the Civil War in the 1860s, and not through changes that were brought about through the 1960s and in the years following.”
For months, one of those countries—headed by Trump and the fascist, Nazi-saluting core at the top of his regime—has held more or less unchallenged sway as they streamrollered through with their fascist program.
Yesterday, the other country—the “decent people” who are horrified by one or another or all of what the fascist Trump regime is doing—began to come out.
This week we want to highlight the pictures which give a sense of the breadth, spirit and range of thinking of this crowd. In the weeks to come, we’ll say more. But today, we want to emphasize three things:
First, it is imperative that people -- from many different perspectives, but united to defeat this fascism -- come out to the organizing conferences called by RefuseFascism.org later in April, under the slogan The Trump Fascist Regime Must Go! Anger and hope are powerful feelings. Disorganized or misdirected, they will go nowhere; organized, they can move mountains. The call to the conferences, as well as RefuseFascism.org’s “Call to Conscience, Call To Act,” must reach many many ears.
Second, organization is essential, but it is not enough. It is also imperative that people know what they’re fighting against and what they could be fighting for. And in this, there is nothing to compare to the new pamphlet of Bob Avakian’s recent social media messages produced by The Bob Avakian Institute, “TRUMP/MAGA FASCISM: What We're Really Facing, Why and What Must Be Done to Defeat It Before It's Too Late.”
Third: Now is the time to step up acts of nonviolent resistance and protest! Find creative and bold ways to call out the fascism of Trump/MAGA and raise the demand: The Trump Fascist Regime Must Go!, along with, In the Name of Humanity, We Refuse to Accept A Fascist America! Aim to challenge, inspire and organize others as you do.
So take a breath, look at the pictures, and…LET’S GO!
