May Day 2026 saw a wide array of activities and protests. May Day Strong, a coalition of hundreds of organizations, sponsored or inspired rallies, marches, picket lines and educational programs in hundreds of cities with some tens of thousands participating nationwide. The Revcom Corps For The Emancipation of Humanity (The RCC4EH) brought the message of This Whole System Is Rotten and Illegitimate! We Need and We Demand: A Whole New Way to Live, A Fundamentally Different System! into the protests in several cities. Refuse Fascism brought striking banners with the demand of this moment: The Trump Fascist Regime Must Go NOW!

May Day Strong organized under the slogan: “Workers Over Billionaires.” The dominant force in most of the protests were the unions. For example, the North Carolina Association of Educators (the teachers union) led thousands in a march protesting the situation they face; in NYC, the first of two main rallies in Washington Square was led by the Laborers Union. The mayors of NYC and Chicago spoke at the key rallies. The message from the “stage” at the bigger rallies was for the rights of workers and against the gross inequality of U.S. society.

These are all just concerns and needs. But, in the face of the Trump fascist regime’s juggernaut that threatens the very future of humanity, at least judging from the rallies that we attended, it was outrageous and harmful that stakes of this moment were barely spoken of and people were not led to confront this in any significant way from the “front” of the rallies. In the face of a criminal, murderous war by the U.S. and Israel, scarcely a mention. The unrelenting brutal reality of the genocidal, racist, women-hating, immigrant-bashing, science-denying, and climate destroying Trump fascist regime scarcely spoken of.  It should be a matter of serious reflection and struggle why this was so. And, further, why in the face of what is at stake and the massive resistance that the turnouts were not close to what was needed.

At the same time, there were a lot more youth and students out in the streets, many with significant openness and desire to learn how to change things. An organizer for the RCC4EH in NYC wrote:

People were drawn to the RCC4EH’s analysis that this is a whole system—capitalism-imperialism—that needs to be overthrown and for that we need a real revolution and a whole new way to live. Especially the younger people wanted to understand the system and the concrete vision of a different society on the road to emancipation. We challenged people: billionaires are the symptom, but we urgently need to get organized now to get rid of the whole system. This system is an international system of exploitation, we don’t need a piece of the pie for Americans, we need a whole new system to emancipate humanity!

Thousands of copies of the broadsheet We Need and We Demand were distributed, and Revolution Books sold copies of the Constitution for the New Socialist Republic in North America and Bob Avakian’s latest work, HUMANITY ON THE BRINK: A Forced March Into the Abyss, or Forging a Way Forward Out of the Madness? People signed up to be part of discussions of that talk in different cities.

Refuse Fascism made sure that the demand: Trump Must Go NOW! was seen. In LA there was a banner drop, in NYC the Refuse Fascism contingent had a huge—really huge—banner that could be seen by most everyone in Washington Square Park. And, chapters around the country were creative with bright orange and black signs that were seen throughout the rallies and marches.

On May Day, in cities across the country the RevComCorps for the Emancipation of Humanity joined and took out this message:

We march at a time when this capitalist-imperialist system is running up against its limits, and a fascist movement headed by Trump has come to power to save that system. Repression… war and U.S. military aggression from Gaza to Venezuela to Nigeria to Iran and beyond—with the real threat of a spiral into nuclear war at any time…full-out anti-immigrant hatred and intensified oppression of Black people and other people of color, women, LGBT people… all while the polar ice melts and the “great powers” see only a chance for military control of the sea lanes that this will open up!

As Bob Avakian has said:

We, the people of the world, can no longer afford to allow these imperialists to continue to dominate the world and determine the destiny of humanity. They need to be overthrown as quickly as possible. And it is a scientific fact that we do not have to live this way.”

—Bob Avakian, revolutionary leader and author of the new communism

The RevCom Corp raised these demands:

We Demand: Stop the Genocidal U.S./Israeli War on Iran and Lebanon!
