The day after ICE gestapo agents murdered Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis on Wednesday, January 7, their fellow fascist goons from the Border Patrol shot two immigrants in Portland, Oregon!
Not a lot is known about what happened, and the situation is developing. According to the Portland police, they responded Thursday afternoon to a report of a shooting, and “confirmed that federal agents had been involved in a shooting.” A few minutes later, they received word that a man who had been shot had called requesting help. Officers responded to the call, which came from a location about eight miles from the shooting by federal agents, “and found a male and female with apparent gunshot wounds. Officers applied a tourniquet and summoned emergency medical personnel. The patients were transported to the hospital. Their conditions are unknown. Officers have determined the two people were injured in the shooting involving federal agents.”
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a statement saying those in the car are Venezuelan immigrants—and accused them of being members of the Tren de Aragua gang. The DHS claimed their Border Patrol agents were carrying out a “targeted vehicle stop” when the driver “weaponized” the vehicle—and the agents fired a “defensive shot.” These are the exact same lying justifications that the DHS is using for their cold-blooded murder of Renee Nicole Good!
Hundreds gathered in several places in Portland that evening, including in front of the ICE office, in protest of the ICE/Border Patrol shootings in Minneapolis and now Portland. Portland Mayor Keith Wilson called on ICE to end all operations in the city, and said: “We cannot sit by while constitutional protections erode and bloodshed mounts. Portland is not a ‘training ground’ for militarized agents, and the ‘full force’ threatened by the administration has deadly consequences.”
As Noche Diaz of the Revcom Corps for the Emancipation of Humanity says in a @TheRevcoms post: “To echo the words of a man who was interviewed on the streets of Portland where the shooting took place, ICE needs to get the fuck out of that city, and they need to get out of every city where they are hunting and terrorizing people. And, as that man said, it is long past time that the people to rise up and do something, ’cause this is far beyond normal electoral politics. This is the lawless tyranny of a fascist regime. This isn’t a Portland problem or a Minneapolis problem. And in the name of humanity, we must refuse to accept a fascist America. It is righteous that people are celebrating the life of Renee Nicole Good and the courage that she exhibited. And that’s the kind of courage many more people need to be exhibiting in these times.”
